An original and rare brooch with delft pottery featuring a traditional blue hand painted watermill scene, placed within a delicate silver filigree lace frame.

The brooch dates to early 1950s, before Porceletti started making the transfer versions of their designs.

In very good condition, with minor signs of wear. C clasp in good working order. Both the fligree and the delft panel are in original states, not repaired. There are a couple of hairlines appearing on the porcelain but this is not immediately obvious. Only becomes clear under the magnifier loupe.

Artistic specs & hallmarks:
– Blue delft pottery is from Dick Olthuysen of Porceletti (in Gouda)
– Silver frame made by G.J. van den Bergh Jr. (Schoonhoven silversmith)
– Signed GB5 maker’s mark for G.J. van den Bergh
– Stamped with Dutch silver hallmark of sward and 835
Maker’s mark is located on the clasp, and the silver hallmark is on the front of the silver frame, just below the bottom left of the porcelain insert.

***Schoonhoven silver and blue Delft pottery inserts from the Gouda region is considered to be the perfect combination of Delft jewellery.
